On October 25, 2018, Super Typhoon Yutu slammed into the island of Saipan as a Category 5 storm and has left some serious damage to our school property. After a week of clean up, we were able to resume classes on Monday, November 5, 2018.
It has been almost a month and the school is still without power and will most likely need to run on generator for a while. Currently, the school has 3 portable generators and 1 portable generator that we are borrowing from the clinic every day. We have been trying to run all lights and ACs only in all the classrooms with these portable generators, but they don’t have enough capacity to run everything at the same time. We have to run the ACs on a schedule to avoid constant power surges. These portable generators are maxed out of their capacity.
Since this has been the second time in the past 3 years that we have experienced power outtages for long periods of time, our school board has decided that we have to invest in a big generator that can power the whole school at 100% capacity. We are looking at an 80kW generator and it will cost us about $48,000 including shipping and installation. If you are able to help with any amount, please click on the donate button below. Thank you for your help in continuing our work here in Saipan!
