THURSDAY FRIDAY LETTER

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is upon us.  This will be the last Friday Letter of the school year.  This has been a fun and interesting first year for me and I look forward to seeing familiar faces and new faces for the next school year.  Congratulations to the CDC students that will be moving up to their next level.

 

CONGRATULATIONS – Child Development Center (CDC) Completion Ceremony this evening (Thursday) at 6:30.  There will be no school tomorrow, Friday 26 May for CDC students.

 

HOLIDAY – Monday, 29 May is a holiday, there will be no school for CDC or Elementary.

 

GRADUATIONS AND UPCOMING EVENTS –    

  • Wednesday, 31 May (Date Change) 8:10 a.m.  Elementary Award Ceremony will be at the school
  • Wednesday, 31 May 6:00 p.m. Kindergarten Graduation will be at the Central SDA Church
  • Thursday, 1 June at 6:00 p.m. 8th Grade Graduation will be at the Central SDA Church

END OF YEAR AND REPORT CARDS – If you haven’t already registered for next year, please do that as soon as possible.  There are only a few slots left in most grades and some are full.  Also, please be sure that your accounts are cleared to receive your child’s report card that will be coming out soon.

YEARBOOK SIGNING PARTY – We had our yearbook signing party today.  If you haven’t purchased your yearbook, there is still time and a few yearbooks that haven’t been spoken for yet.  The cost for a yearbook is $20.  You may order yours through the office.  THANK YOU Ms Meghann for a job well done on the yearbook design and content.  You did an amazing job!

 

RECYCLING – We were working with the Saipan government and had joined a competition for recycling clean and dry cardboard and aluminum cans.  Thank you!  UPDATE:  With your help, we turned in over 4,000 pounds of cardboard to recycle instead of it going to the dump.  Thank you for your support of this project.

 

ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL – Elementary Summer School Open Registration.  THERE ARE A FEW LIMITED SPACES STILL AVAILABLE.  There will be a special Music and Fine Arts Camp during the first summer session.  The Music and Fine Arts Camp is limited to Kindergarten through 4th grade.  This will be a limited enrollment class.  All proceeds for this class will be to purchase new instruments for the next school year.  There will be a Remedial class for 4th grade through 8th grade during the first summer session.

I HEART SAIPAN SDA SCHOOL T-SHIRTS – The 8th grade will be going to Washington, DC during Spring Break.  One of their fundraisers has been selling t-shirts.  There are a few t-shirts left; once they are gone there may be no more of this style.  There were only 200 printed and you still have the opportunity to own your very own.  The cost is only $10.  Thank you for supporting the 8th grade class trip.  See Ms Cowell to get your t-shirt.

 

SPRING BREAK – We will have classes next week Monday through Thursday.  Friday will be a holiday for the Elementary and CDC.  April 17-21 there will be no school for the Elementary School.

 

QUESTIONNAIRE – Parents you should have received a questionnaire regarding your child returning for the next school year.  If you haven’t already turned the questionnaire in or need another one please either drop them by the office or pick another up.  This helps us as we plan for the next school year.

 

OPEN ENROLLMENT – Open enrollment for CDC and the Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year has begun.  Several classes are close to being full, we recommend you come as soon as possible to register your child.  To secure your child’s slot the registration fee will need to be paid by April13.  We will open up slots for those on the waiting list on 24 April.

 

RECYCLING – We are working with the Saipan government and have joined a competition for recycling clean and dry cardboard and aluminum cans.  Please help the school by bringing your aluminum cans and cardboard you find.  We will be taking the cardboard to the recycling center each Friday after school.  When shopping at your favorite store and you see cardboard boxes, please get them for the school.  If you have any questions, Mrs. Vega, the science teacher is taking leadership for this program.  Thank you!  UPDATE:  With your help, we have already turned in over 2,000 pounds of cardboard to recycle instead of it going to the dump.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCE – You should have received a letter telling you about the parent/teacher conferences and times for you to sign up.  Conferences for elementary are 29 and 30 March.  Accounts should be current before you can get your child’s report card.  Classes dismiss at 12:30 on those days and there is no After School Academy or After School Care.  Report cards will not be handed out before that time.  Conferences for CDC are 3-5 April.  Please check with your child’s teacher to sign-up.

 

OPEN ENROLLMENT – Open enrollment for CDC and the Elementary School for the 2017-18 school year began on Monday, 20 March.  Please let your family and friends know if they have school age children.  We know several classes will fill quickly, we recommend you come as soon as possible to register your child.  Currently some of our classes have a waiting list or are close to being full, please secure your child’s slot by paying the registration fee by April13.  We will open up slots for those on the waiting list on 24 April.

 

SCHOOL HOLIDAY – Friday, 24 March is Commonwealth Covenant Day.  There will be no school for the elementary school or CDC.

 

RECYCLING – We are working with the Saipan government and have joined a competition for recycling clean and dry cardboard and aluminum cans.  Please help the school by bringing your aluminum cans and cardboard you find.  We will be taking the cardboard to the recycling center each Friday after school.  When shopping at your favorite store and you see cardboard boxes, please get them for the school.  If you have any questions, Mrs. Vega, the science teacher is taking leadership for this program.  Thank you!  UPDATE:  With your help, we have already turned in almost 700 pounds of cardboard to recycle instead of it going to the dump.

MANAGAHA OUTDOOR SCHOOL – Friday, 17 March is our Outdoor School.  Permission slips have been sent home.  Please return the permission slips to the school along with payment to the school by Thursday, 16 March.  Parents are invited to attend.  Parents, if you are planning to go with us to Managaha please let your child’s teacher know.

HOPE RUN – Thank you to those that came out and supported the 5K Hope Run last Sunday.  Thank you to those that supported the school through donations and buying of tickets.

UNIFORMS – Please make sure your child is in the school uniform each day unless they want to wear casual clothing on Friday.

SCIENCE FAIR – The Science Fair scheduled for 16 March has been cancelled.

TIME – It is important for your child to be on-time to school.  If your child is late they are missing an important part of their education as well as learning the importance learning good habits such as being on-time.  Classes start at 8:00.

HOLIDAY – Monday, 20 February is Presidents Day.  There will be no school for CDC and Elementary.

 

HOPE RUN – We will be having our 7th annual Hope Run Sunday, 26 February with registration starting at 6:00 a.m.  We are encouraging each family to be involved in this fun time together as a school family.  Students have been selling tickets for this event.  Parents, thank you for your help with this fundraiser.  Proceeds for this event goes to the Hope Run Scholarship Fund that currently helps 14 students in our school.

 

HOPE RUN SHIRTS – These shirts are available now for only $15 and can be purchased at the school office.  There are a limited number and sizes, get yours while supplies last.

 

HOPE RUN TICKETS – Students have been working hard to sell tickets.  We have begun tabulating the class ticket sales, if you have any ticket sales monies, please be sure to turn in to the office on or before Thursday.  Next Friday will be the last day to tally tickets for your child’s class.

IOWA TEST OF BASIC SKILLS (ITBS) – Test results are being sent home today, please be sure your child gives you the form.  If you have any questions about the results, please visit your child’s teacher or come by the office.
